Question
Answer
an electrical current heats the filament in a bulb so that it gives out light
what happens in a lamp?
a fixed resistor has a resistance that does not change and a variable resistor can change resistance
what is a fixed and variable resistor?
it allows current to flow through only one direction
what is a diode?
the flow of electrons is consistently in one direction around the circuit
what is direct current?
the direction of electron flow continually reverses
what is an alternating current?
electrons are negatively charged particles and they transfer energy through wires as electricity
what are electrons?
current is the flow of electrical charge
what is current?
Q=It
what links current time and charge?
in series
where must the ammeter always be placed?
both the resistance of the component and the potential difference across the component
what does the current through a component depend on?
in parallel with the component
where must the voltmeter be placed?
E=QV
what links potential difference energy and charge?
V=IR
what links potential difference current and resistance?

As electrons flow through wires, they collide with the ions in the wire which causes the ions to vibrate more. This increased vibration of the ions increases the temperature of the wire.
how do wires heat up
