level questions: Newton's First and Second Laws of Motion

QuestionAnswer
What does Newton's First law say?It states that an Object will remain still or at a constant velocity unless another external force is acted against.
What does it really mean? [Newtons First Law]It means if an object is at a constant speed, it has a zero resultant force as its balanced out. If its accelerating, its a non-zero resultant force as another force is intervening, or increasing the magnitude
What does Newton's Second law state? The Force acting on an object is equal to its rate of change of momentum Can be rephrased too Any Resultant Force will produce an acceleration.
What is the Formula for Newton's Second lawForce [N] = Mass [kg] x Acceleration [m/s²]
Rearrange it for Mass=Mass [kg] = Force [N] ------------------- Acceleration [m/s²]
What is the resultant force in the formula? Its always Force [N]
A car has a mass of 1500000 grams and a Force of 1670N. What's the acceleration?First Converge. 1500000g = 1500kg. Now get the formula and rearrange it F=mA A=F/m A=1670/1500 A=1.11m/s²
How can you demonstrate Newton's Second Law.Grab a trolley, Light gates, string and measured mass. Tie the trolley with string which is also connected to mass located underneath the table. Put Light gates in two measured out spots. The light gates will give you acceleration straight up. Drop the force and let the car go through the light gates. From their see the Force you put on the string and the acceleration. There will be a clear trend. More force = Greater acceleration.
