Question
Answer
The reporting verb ‘say/said’ is changed to ask/inquire. The interrogative sentence is changed into a statement by placing the subject before the verb and the question mark is replaced by a full stop. If the interrogative sentence is a yes/no answer type sentence then ‘If/whether’ is used as a conjunction. Note- The conjunction ‘that’ is NOT used. Are you listening? You are listening.
Example: I said to him, “Where are you going?” I asked him where he was going.
