Translation | - In eukaryotes + prokaryotes, happens at ribosomes
- Translating sequence of mRNA to a sequence of amino acids |
2 Translation process (1) | - A mRNA strand attaches to ribosome in the cytoplasm
- tRNA molecules with amino acids attached bind to the start of the mRNA strand |
2 Translation process (2) | - tRNA complementary anticodon attaches to first codon on mRNA strand via base pairing |
2 Translation process (3) | - tRNA molecules move away from the ribosome leaving behind its amino acid
- A peptide bond is formed between the two amino acids |
2 Translation process (4) | - Ribosome moves across by ONE codon
- Process repeats until there is a STOP codon on the RNA strand |
2 Translation process (5) | - Polypeptide chain left behind
- The primary structure folds to make a protein |
