What is an Individual? | -Simply a Single Organisation |
What is an Population? | -All the Organisations of 1 Species, in a Habitat |
What is a Habitat? | -The Place where an Organisation Lives |
What is a Species? | -This is a Group of Similar Organisms that can make Fertile Offspring [Babies] |
What is a Community? | -This is all the Organisms [Different Species] living in a Habitat |
What is a Ecosystem? | -A Community of Organisms, Biotic, as well as Non-Living Conditions, Abiotic. |
What do Plants and Animals need, to Survive and Reproduce?
What does this result in? | -Plants: Light, Space, Water and Nutrients [Minerals] from the Soil
-Animals: Space [Territory], Food, Water and Mates
-This need for Resources, Especially for Animals, makes a need of Competition for it, against other, and same Species |
How can the Environment
-Change?
-Affect Communities? | -Environment can Change due to the Abiotic Factors, and the Biotic Factors
-Change in the Environment may be Beneficial for Some Species, or be Cataclysmic for others |
How can the Temperature, Abiotic Factor, affect Communities? | -It can affect Distribution for Example. A Bird Species that used to live in Warmer Places may migrant towards the North and South due to Rising Temperatures |
How can the Moisture Level, Abiotic Factor, affect Communities? | -If a Plant can grow Best in slightly Damp Soils, it would very much Struggle in Waterlogged, or Very Dry Soil then, Dwindling the Population |
How can the Light Intensity, Abiotic Factor, affect Communities? | -If Trees branch out more, covering more Surface Area high up, then Plants that need more Light may be Replaced by other Species that need little Light to Survive and Reproduce |
How can the pH of the Soil, Abiotic Factor, affect Communities? | -Some Species are much better in Acidic Soils, others are better in Alkaline Soils. If a Soil was Acidic, then the Species who rely on Alkaline Soils would Die Out |
How can the Availability of Food, Biotic Factor, affect Communities? | -If there is more Food to give out, then the Population of that Species can have more to Survive and Reproduce, bumping up the Population |
How can the Number of Predators, Biotic Factor, affect Communities? | -If there is less Lions [Predators] then the Prey can Increase, because fewer will be dead from the Predator. |
How can the Population of a Prey be linked with the Population of a Predator? | -If the Population of the Prey Increases, so does the Population of Predators. The Opposite is true
-However, If the Prey Increases, it takes time for the Predator to Increase as well, because of the Hunting and the Reproducing
-So This means that the Predator-Prey Cycle is Very Interdependent. |
What is a Parasite, and what Situation does it Create? | -A Parasite is something that lives off a Host. They take what's Needed, and gives Nothing, or even something Bad back. Example would be:
-Tapeworms takes lots of Nutrients from the Host, Harming them
-Fleas can harm Dogs, Parasitic
-This therefore creates a Win-Lose Situation |
What is Mutualism, and what Situation does it Create? | -Mutualism is where Both Organisms can Benefit from each other, therefore not Harming, but Bettering each other. Example:
-Clownfish lives in the Toxic Tentacles of Sea Anemones, and is the only Fish that can do so, making them Protected, and the Clownfish helps, by Eating Parasites that would harm the Sea Anemones |
