level questions: Sex Chromosomes and Mendel's Work

QuestionAnswer
How many pairs of Chromosomes are there in a Human Body Cell?-23 pairs of Chromosomes
What is the 23rd Pair? Why is it so important?-The Last pair is the Sex Chromosomes, and are labelled XY -This simply is the Chromosomes that says if your a Male or a Female
Why is the Y Chromosome detrimental for the Sex Chromosomes?-If there is a Y Chromosome [XY] then it gives the Human Male Characteristics. This is seen in the Embryo- it Develops into a Male -Lack of Y [XX] will give it no Male Characteristics, so it then has Female Characteristics. This is seen in the Embryo- it Develops Differently
When did Gregor Mendel publish his Research?-1866 saw it Published
What exactly did Mendel do?-He simply first had a Tall Pea Plant, and crossed it with a Dwarf Pea Plant -This resulted in all the Offspring's being Tall -However, in the Second Cross [Took 2 Plants from the First Set] he found out that 3/4 of the Offspring's was Tall, so therefore the 'Inherited Factors' [Genes] was Passed on from the Parent. And he also showed that the Tall Inherited Factor was Dominant over the Small, which was Recessive
Describe Mendel's work, with Genetic Diagrams-First Cross: TT + tt = -Tt, Tt, Tt, Tt, 100% Tall, and Homozygous -Second Cross: Tt + Tt = -TT, Tt, Tt, tt =75% Tall, and Homozygous, 25% Tall, and Heterozygous
Why was Mendel's work not Picked on Straight away?-Back then, the Science on Genes wasn't very Known, and its Obvious from him saying 'Inherited Factors' -His work was linked After his Death
