Why is "Chondromalcia" no longer a correct term for Patellofemoral Stress Syndrome/Anterior Knee Pain Syndrome/Runner's Knee?

Chondromalcia means “softening of the cartilage under the knee cap! This term is NOT used anymore as there is no real softening.
