- In cases of low microfilaremia - 1 mL of blood is mixed with 10 mL of 2% Formalin - Supernatant is discarded - Sediment is studied (smeared and stained) - The disadvantage of the procedure is that the microfilariae are killed by the formalin and therefore are not seen as motile organisms.
