- Formation of blood clot - Atheroma plaque can rupture (burst through) endothelium of artery - Damages artery wall, leaves rough surface - Platelets + fibrin (protein) accumulate at site of damage - Or become dislodged + block blood vessels - Debris from rupture can cause blood clots elsewhere
