Cell mediated immune response

Apoptosis of infected macrophages provides an important link to adaptive immunity, as apoptotic vesicles containing bacterial antigens are taken up by dendritic cells. The dendritic cells can efficiently present these antigens to naive T cells, leading to their activation.
