-Iron deficiency anaemia -Hb should rise (by 2g/100ml) & get back to normal range after 3-4 weeks, and should continue for a further 3 months to replenish iron stores -Gi irritation is common- can cause nausea/vomiting particularly if taken on empty stomach -Constipation- especially in elderly -Dark stools -Needs to be stored safely- it is a cuase of accidently overdose in children -Can affect absorption of other meds if taken at the same time
