Produces sex cells which are HAPLOID During fertilisation (egg and sperm fuse) the diploid number is restored This ensures that the diploid number remains the same after every generation (DP = SAME) Meiosis produces genetic variation in offspring which increases the chance of species survival if the environment changes adversely ( SURVIVAL)
