- Located in the Eastern Friuli sub-region of Friuli Venezia Giulia - More than 80% of Collio's production is white - Most widely planted variety is Pinot Grigio, followed by Sauvignon Blanc and Friulano. Other important varieties are Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco - Wide diversity of wine styles too - Some producers ferment and macerate on the skins, creating strong phenolic character - a style suitable and traditonal for Ribolla Gialla - Collio Bianco is a blend produced from a variety of grapes and some of the finest super-white are labelled as Collio Bianco - Red wine production is small and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc dominant
