Zone of lesser injury lying deep and adjacent to and underneath zone of coagulation. temporarily lacks blood supply, not avascular. necrosis may follow and may convert zone to dead eschar. may be reversed with cell recovery within a week. dehydration, pressure, hypovolemia, over-resuscitation, infection, further trauma, and hyponatremia may lead to necrosis.
