Both a vascular and cellular response to injury. Bleeding is controlled; the body combats infectious agents; lasts a few days. Transudate appears - clear, watery liquid. Blood vessels initially constrict to prevent blood loss but after 30 minutes, vasodilator, being in repair cells and chemicals. Erythema, edema, heat and pain. Normally lasts 4-6 days.
