Local defect of surface of an organ produced by elimination of inflamed necrotic tissue (necrosis after inflammation) Encountered in mucosa or skin in lower limb with ischemic necrosis due to circulatory disturbance. May be chronic (fibroblast proliferation, scarring and accumulation of leukocytes) or acute inflammations (PMNs and vascular dilations in margin) causing ulcers
