What is abdominal paracentesis?

Most rapid and cost-effective method of determining cause of ascites, done on all pt w/new onset of ascites, and pt admitted to hospital w/ascites, CBC, albumin and cultures done routinely. Contraindicated in case of DIC or fibrinolysis.
