• Diagnosis requires DIF of a skin biopsy specimen showing deposition of IgA in a granular pattern in the upper papillary dermis • Although most patients are asymptomatic, greater than 90% have an associated gluten- sensitive enteropathy upon endoscopic examination • Among patients with celiac disease, 15-25% develop dermatitis herpetiformis • The mainstays of treatment are dapsone and a gluten-free diet
