DEFINITION Obstruction of the common bile duct by a microstone. INCIDENCE Found in 6–15% of acute calculous cholecystitis and 1–2% of acalculous cholecystitis at surgery. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Epigastric or RUQ pain and tenderness, jaundice, cholangitis, or recurrent attacks of acute pancreatitis without other known risk factors.
