What is paget's disease?

➢ Increase in bone turnover ➢ Asynchronism of OB and OC activity in bone turnover : Osteoclastic activity and osteoblastic activity are prominent ➢ The result is a thicker but weaker bone that has irregular cement lines, producing a mosaic pattern instead of the organized lamellar pattern. ➢ This proliferating bone is very vascular and increased vascular flow can lead to high flow congestive heart failure ➢ Localized disease may not require treatment other than occasional use of pain relievers. ➢ Wider polyostotic disease can be treated with osteoclastinhibiting bisphosphonates
