Quinine is rapidly absorbed orally and is metabolized before renal excretion. Intravenous administration of quinine is possible in severe infections.interferes with heme polymerization, resulting in death of the erythrocytic form of the plasmodial parasite. Alkalinization of urine decreases its excretion.Quinine absorption is retarded when the drug is taken with aluminum-containing antacids.
