Question:

Gemcitabine resistance

Author: Suzuki

Answer:

Resistance to the drug is probably due to its inability to be converted to a nucleotide, caused by an alteration in deoxycytidine kinase. In addition, the tumor cell can produce increased levels of endogenous deoxycytidine that compete for the kinase, thus overcoming the inhibition.
