Vigabatrin acts as an irreversible inhibitor of (GABA-T). GABA-T is the enzyme responsible for metabolism of GABA. Vigabatrin is associated with adverse effects resulting in visual field loss ranging from mild to severe in 30 percent or more of patients. Physicians must be registered with SHARE to prescribe vigabatrin.
