1. Emil did not like Black Hat from the moment he saw him on the train. 2. When he was left alone with Black Hat he decided to watch Black Hat but he soon fell asleep, when he woke up he saw that Black Hat was gone and so was his money. This is how Emil guessed that Black Hat had taken his money.
