Question:

What about an object in equilbrium?

Author: eric_galvao

Answer:

Imagine a book on a table. The books weight pulls it down, while the table pushed it up [normal reaction force] This is not Newton's third law however. These forces are different types and are acting on the book together. The pairs of forces from Newton's Third law would be: The Book's weight by gravity, and then being pulled back up by Earth The table normal contact force pushing up on the book, and the normal contact force from the book pushing down on the table
