The social system before the French Revolution. Divided into 3 states: First State: the members of the roman catholic church • Owned 10% of the land in France • 1% of the population • Payed no taxes • Contributed 2% of their income to the government • Provided education and welfare for poor • They hated the ideas of the Enlightment
