Question:

What happens if you 'Do Work' on a Gas?

Author: eric_galvao

Answer:

-Doing Work just means Transferring Energy -This can happen by either Mechanically eg Bike Pump, or by Heating eg Candle. -If we use a Bike Pump, then Energy is Transferred [Work is Done] against the Plunger of the Pump, as it is Exerting a Force Against You. -This gives Energy to the Kinetic Energy Store of the Gas Particles, meaning they get Faster [More Pressure] -And also the Thermal Energy Store of the Particles will also Increase, which is why if you Pump something up it'll get Warmer.
