Question:

What controls whether a round of replication is initiated?

Author: Alex Rapai

Answer:

The Dam methylase methylates the adenine residues GATC motifs in OriC, which need to occur 14 times for initiation. After the replication, the new strands ae not methylated (semi conservative replication). New dna molecules are half-methylated. Re-methylation occurs about 1/3 of the way in cell cycle.
