- Both alleles expressed in the heterozygous both take a capital case letter - An index letter (small at the top) indentifies the allele - Therefore: normal haemoglobin alleles is Hb (small N) - Siclcle cell allele is Hb (small S) Hbn Hbs = resistence to malaria
