Maintaining vegetation cover

Maintaining vegetation cover helps reduce soil erosion by preventing wind from carrying away exposed soil. Farmers can plant a cover crop, like clover, immediately after harvesting the main crop to protect the soil. Clover also enriches the soil with nitrogen when ploughed in before the next planting.
