-Moderate opiate -Can cause tolerance + dependence -Avoid in patients with a history of epilepsy or those susceptible to seizures -tramadol lowers the seizure threshold - Used with caution with medication that can lower the seizure threshold (e.g. SSRIs, TCAs) – Has serotonergic activity- can cause serotonin syndrome if given with some antidepressants (SSRIs)
